“The film becomes a visual exploration of the artificial and the authentic.”

DIRECTORS NOTE:

This project is dedicated to raising awareness and increasing representation of South Asians within the arts and modern media. Our film challenges these outdated narratives by showcasing South Asians as multifaceted characters who embody strength, elegance, and complexity.

DOP'S NOTE:

When approaching a film like this, you have to be open-minded and attentive. Breaking it down can be difficult and things can get lost in translation between a first time director and DOP link up, but that wasn’t the case here.

Anisha was thoroughly researched and had a strong vision, making it easy for me to understand exactly what she wanted for each scene and the 'style' of filmmaking required.

We chose to shoot on Kodak 16mm film for the 'reality' part of the film, or what was most real to the viewer. This choice allows the audience to transition into the world Anisha built seamlessly, without raising too many questions... those come later.

Shooting on analogue film also sets a distinct, impressionistic tone. It’s a combination of chemical reactions and light that produce the images you see, creating its own version of reality.
